Sonasearch has developed an advanced, proprietary Electronic Heading Reference
System to provide the new
Gearhart-Sonasearch Cavern Surveyor
07 with unparalleled 'single-pass' survey capabilities when surveying 'through
pipe'. Unlike other, less expensive units, the Sonasearch EHRS incorporates a
portable IMU with serial data outputs for roll, pitch, yaw, and magnetic heading
data using state-of-the-art MEMS gyros in conjunction with solid-state
magnetometers. The MEMS gyros utilize a highly stable concentric ring topology,
which is more stable and accurate than the conventional “tuning fork” topologies
used in lower cost MEMS-based products.
This advanced technology provides significant
improvement in the efficiency of storage cavern surveys, offering a dramatic
reduction in 'work over' related costs. This capability, when coupled with the
demonstrated ability of the Cavern Surveyor 07 to survey 'through pipe' allows
surveys to be completed in a single pass - saving many hours when compared with
older technology used by competing sonar systems.
